This artisanal process, introduced more recently, is carried out on a cotton canvas, on which the design has been previously drawn.

Using a gun, the craftsman meticulously inserts strands of material into the canvas, following the outline of the design.

In the case of carved carpets, the strands are tufted to the maximum height and then carefully "carved" entirely with scissors by a carver.

The back of the rug is then coated with a layer of latex to fix the strands and the backing is attached.

The rug can then be finished (shave to even out the surface, overlock the edges, brush, chisel):

  • the carpet is shaved to even out the surface;
  • the overlock stitching is done manually all around the carpet;
  • and when the design requires it, chiseling is undertaken.

All these finishing operations are done using tools guided by the human hand.

This technique allows for great freedom of design and gives the rug all its nobility and uniqueness, conveyed by the gesture of the weaver and the engraver.
